After years of toing and froing, and a much publicised delay back in June, the Government has stepped on the pedal to accelerate the HIPs (Home Information Pack) rollout.
Following on from the introduction of HIPs on 1 August 2007 for properties with four or more bedrooms, on 10 September 2007 for homes with three bedrooms , the Government announced that it was mandatory from 14 December 2007 that all properties will require the arrangement of a HIP before marketing can begin.
Communities Minister Baroness Andrews, commented: "We are now ready to start rolling out HIPs and EPCs to the next part of the market as promised, and improve a home-buying and selling process which currently is not working for consumers or the environment."
AHIPP (Association of Home Information Pack Providers) were unsurprisingly pleased at the decision. Mike Ockenden, Director General, AHIPP comments:
"… HIPs can really start to do the job they have been brought in to do.
At last there is some relief in sight from the incredible stress that home sellers and buyers endure, and in addition, we can start to significantly improve the energy efficiency of our homes."
